Eight Treasure Tea | 八寶茶
Eight treasure tea is a beloved Chinese beverage that is comprised of eight ingredients ranging from fruits, flowers, nuts, tea, and traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. The ingredients can vary slightly depending on individual tastes and region. Grand Tea and Imports’ blend contains classic ingredients including:
- Longan
- Goji Berries
- Jujube
- Chrysanthemum Flowers
- Honeysuckle Flowers
- Aged Tangerine Peel
- Licorice
- Dried Ginger
Our pre-packed blend of eight treasure tea has traditional Chinese medicine "warming" ingredients like ginger and jujube combined with "cooling" ingredients like tangerine peels and honeysuckle, to make a balanced infusion that is suitable for people of all ages and health conditions.
To keep our mix inclusive for our caffeine-sensitive friends, our blend is naturally caffeine free and does not contain tea leaves. But it is very popular (and highly recommended by the GTI family!) to brew our eight treasure tea with green tea.
Rock sugar is also commonly added as a sweetener, but is optional. Our blend does not contain rock sugar.
Once brewed, our eight treasure tea is lightly sweet, tangy, herbal, and spicy. It is delicious served hot like a mulled cider!
Cooking Instructions
Makes 3-4L of water
Bring 3L water to a boil. Add rinsed herbs and cook on medium heat for 15-20 mins or until desired concentration. Optionally, mix in rock sugar to taste and/or a tablespoon of a green tea of choice and steep with heat off until rock sugar melts and/or tea is infused (~5 mins). Strain and serve. Herbs can be recooked for a second brew by adding 1L of water and letting it boil under medium heat for 30 mins.
Pro-tip: tear a few of the jujubes (the dates with leathery dark red skin) in half before cooking to help them infuse faster.
Please Note: Due to our small batch sourcing model, product packaging may vary from time to time. Although product received may differ, our family continues to vet every item purchased to ensure quality and consistency.
