Embroidered Fragrant Lucky Cat Charm
The lucky cat (招財貓, zhaocai mao) is an icon in Chinatown. This charm is not only exquisitely made, it's a spice pouch (香包) that contains warm spices that is meant to ward off bad juju. Its fish-shaped tassel is meant to be both a cheeky treat for the cat as well as a reference to the Chinese idiom 年年有餘 (meaning: wishing you abundance every year) since the word for abundance (餘, yu) is pronounced the same way as fish (魚, yu).
Note: The cord comes buttoned together to make a loop for hanging off a bookbag/purse handle, but can be left unbuttoned for longer length.
